About The Artist

Roit is the gun toting, plaster casting, ass kicking, punk rock verison of the Greek poet Homer, brilliantly translating pre-existing legends of the band she follows into truly epic works of art.  With preternatural determination, she writes and illustrates graphic novels, builds elaborate sculptural installations, and directs short films all inspired by her Rock Warrior Life.

Many Artists have constructed works of Rock Star fantasty, projecting themselves into Rock Music's Realm. However, these artists sit safely on the fence between fantasy and dream reality.  From their protected, pejorative, perch they can expound on the intricacies of the precise lighting techniques of each rock iron or reiterate, ad nauseam, the phallic implications of the microphone.  They may cast an eye into this place conteplating the passions that motivate musicians and their respective fans but they have yet to stick a soft, well-manicured, overwrought toe into the fetid angry waves of the real Rock Arena.

Riot not only crosses that boundary, she does everything in her power to blur and destroy that line slamming a well heeled boot into the glass wall to stand battered, bruise, and euphori on the other side.  Functioning in both the art and the rock worlds to the consternation of many an art patron and avid rock fan.  Riot is often unsure herself in which world she stands; stomping through an art opening in all her purpled splendor or drawing at the rail while the sweaty screaming masses surge behind.

But it is to the art world that Riot grands an all access pass.  Through graphic novels, which she often writes and illustrates on the road, Riot recounts the stories surrounding the band she follows.  Immortalizing the band's notorious behavior, rumored or real, it is in these books that Riot gives viewers a detailed version of the narrative making these lgends accessible to a larger audience.

The installations on the other hand are single moments frozen in time, confronting the viewer in a way the books cannot.  These tabbleaus are more than simple props or contrived sets, but stunning altarpieces in the church of the rock god.  Every element is lovingly made from scratch, piece by bloody piece in Riot's own hands.  Sculptures are mostly cast from friends or Riot herself.  Alone, bruised and plaster bandaged bringing these legends and art to life.

Riot's short films expose life on the front lines for the band recreated through the use of sound, music, light, and human interaction.  These videos depict everything from dramatic death scenes to lighter moments between 'characters' backstage bitching over laundr duty and whose turn it is to wash out the sweaty leather pants.  Other times, cast members are called upon to re-inact infamous battles fought along the shores of the Aegean Sea.

The epic nature of Riot's art is the only way to echo the exhilaration and devotions felt by everyone involved in Riot's circle.  She was granted a life and a chance to experience what most others can only imagine.  Riot has the bruises and the silver bullets from the band's crew that prove this more than a carefully constructed art fantasy.
